How long would that take, during rush hours? How long to get back home? How early would someone have to leave home to beat any problems?

How long from Reston to downtown Baltimore?

Thanks all.

Oh lord.

The answer is, "way too long."

I can't even imagine making that commute every day.

You must hate your family and love sitting in your car.

I've driven from McLean, near the GW Parkway, to the Aquarium in about an hour, but not during rush hour, if that gives you some idea.
Based on my experience carting swimmers to practices and meets around the Beltway during the pre-dawn hours, there is virtually no one on the road at 6 am....

Maybe she loves her family and doesn't want them to sit in a car too long.

I have friends that live in Gaithersburg because one was working in Fairfax, one in Baltimore. And even that was bad, for the one commuting to Baltimore. If work is in Baltimore, I'd move to Baltimore! JMHO.

I used to do that route the opposite way every day until I move to NOVA. All I can say is that if you work an early shift (5-6am) you will have a nice commute in the morning (45-55min) and a hellish ride back due to 95-495 congestion. On a regular day, it would take 1.5hrs and on a hell day is could take up to 2.5hrs. Now this is assuming the traffic congestion is about the same going each way on 495 to 95.

Thanks all. I was asking for a friend, a single mom. She thinks she can get to Baltimore from McLean in under and hour, during rush hour. I'm just not seeing how that is possible. It's doubtful that she could leave before 6:30 or 7:00. I'm guessing that would get her to Baltimore in 90 minutes, and going home would be at least that long too. Of course if it rains, all bets are off.
