WETA 26 is moving most of its daily kids programming to upper tier cable channels. The only kids programming they'll have on weekdays is 6-9:00 am (when my son doesn't watch). I pay for 26 through my taxes and through my basic cable subscription and I think its horrible to take away so much free childrens programming. I called the station and complained plus I am following up with a letter. I also made a complaint to the FCC. If you agree, complaints can be made at WETA TV 703-998-2600 and at fcc.gov. Thanks

PBS Channel 32 still has a full lineup of afternoon kids shows (check out http://whut.org). Why not just switch to them? Easier than writing letters.

My guess is that WETA didn't see the point of doing kids' programming in the afternoon when there's another public TV station in DC that does it at the same time.

You can also get the WETA Kids channel for free if you have a digital TV and an antenna, or if you have a digital TV hooked up to Comcast basic.

Yes, a penny or two of your taxes may eventually get to WETA, but it is the members (contributors) that really support the station.

My wife has been a WETA member for years because she likes the British programming (she's a Brit). Anyway a few years ago they were going to cancel "Eastenders" and the resulting uproar from members was intense.

Eastenders is still on WETA....

I would write letters and tell every other parent you know about it...the more they hear from the masses, the more chance there is of making a change.

Yeah I pointed that out a couple of posts up. No actual programming is being lost: All the kids' programming is still 100% free to antenna viewers.

It seems like the real beef is with the cable companies (well, Cox at least) for charging people extra money to get WETA's Kids channel. (Comcast, as I pointed out before, offers it for free to people with basic service; you can get it as long as you have a digital-cable-ready TV. Verizon does this as well.).

Or, you know, people could just watch the same shows on channel 32...
