I went to a home inspection for a house we are going to purchase (hopefully) and noticed Verizon installing some cables near the neighborhood (Blooms Crossing). I assume that to be FIOS. I was wondering if anyone knew when Blooms Crossing was going to be getting it. It may affect what services I sign up for upon moving in.

Thanks Guys!

When is Reston getting it? I went onto Verizon's web site and plugged in my upcoming address and was told that this service was not yet available in my area. I'm NOT a happy Comcast customer right now!

I have Comcast, and 6.1 MB download speed is FAST enough for your browsing the web, unless you're downloading a lot of stuff. At 6.1 MB download, the only bottlenecks will be the remote sites like city-data.com. Not sure if it's really not worth the extra millisecond.

It's a marketing scam with a cool name, and you're all falling for it.
Speed isn't my primary concern, competition for price is. Isn't Fios roughly the same price as comcast, an quite a bit faster?

I'm not sure, but I pay around $63.10/month tax included for comcast internet, no cable tv or phone service. If anyone can share what FIOS is costing them outside of the promotional price, it would be great

I can't believe Fios would be more expensive than that. That seems like a lot to me. I suggest you call Comcast and say it is too expensive and they'll find you a better price....they always do.

I'm likewise not very concerned about speed. For me the dual factors are price/value and dependability. It seems like on every windy day in our subdivision our Comcast high-speed Internet connection fails us, and other than telling us more or less that there's nothing wrong they'll give us a "new" (cough...refurbished...cough) unit to try. We have problems with our high-definition cable as well. Why provide services at such an exorbitant price if you're not going to maintain them?

My development was built as a test community for FiOS; the fiber was laid as the homes were built. We get basic tv service and 20/5 internet included in our HOA fee; each resident is responsible for phone, DVR rental, and any extras (HBO, etc.). FiOS service itself is wonderful - we've never had any issues. The weak spots are the DVR (they use Verizon's own homegrown OS, which is sorry compared with TiVo - lots of reboots required, clumsy interface, etc.) and the customer service (we have a special team assigned to deal with our neighborhood, so I don't know what it's like as a general customer, but Verizon's hodgepodge of legacy systems cause problems like, your install date is 4/23 in the order system, but in the tech's install system it turned into 4/24, so you take the day off but no one ever shows up).

Costwise, we have a slightly better deal because of the HOA's contract with Verizon - Brambleton residents pay $44.95/mo for 20/5 Internet and $37.95/mo for TV service (plus set-top boxes and DVR rental). However, we are not eligible for any of the phone bundles.
