I have been living in Reston for a year and loving it. Town center, trails, trees, golf courses. All seem so nice and so safe (living in Parc Reston, very close to town center.

Now I am thinking about buy a place in Reston. I can only afford something less than 350K (so only condos or cheap townhomes). I don't know if there are areas that I should avoid, either due to high crime or any other reason. Appreciate your thoughts

Reston is a beautiful place. Unfortunately the county placed a lot of section 8 housing around glade drive off Reston parkway. Stay away from that area and you will be fine. In general, North Reston is considered more upscale and safer than South Reston.

Yeah....avoid Glade, Coquino Drive, Emerald Heights.
I LOVE Reston. It's just too far from where I work.

Condos / townhomes in the North Point Village area is great. You may want to purchase closer to the Dulles Toll Road, though, to catch some of the good stuff that will come out of the Metro arrival (several years away).

Best of luck.

Per Austindoxie1972, I would add 20194 (North Point Village) to your search. There are more THs under 350K now.

How do you specifically like Parc Reston? A friend of mine who is moving down with me from PA to work for the same agency just signed a lease on a unit there, and I will be moving in in about two weeks to a unit just around the corner at Archstone Charter Oak. It seems like a great area near to a lot of amenities. It's been like pulling hen's teeth to get some HONEST reviews about complexes in NoVA though. If you go online you'd sweat that EVERY complex, regardless of age or price range, was a "rat trap" because there are so many "doomers" who troll the apartment rating sites. Do you feel safe living in Parc Reston? (Neither the police nor the leasing agents would give us crime information for specific areas).

Charter Oak, Parc Reston, Sycamore Apts, Stratford, etc. are low crime. The last big thing i recall was the kids torching cars in Parc Reston when the complex was being converted to condos about four years ago. The Reston attempted rapist struck about 4/5 times in the Lake Anne area but that was a 1/2 mile away and five years ago.

if you know the street names in your complex, you can do a search for recent arrests here.

I know someone who lives in Sycamore and it's very nice. Young people like it, close to the town center. I would avoid the Glade area and Lake Anne. I'd head for the north end of Reston.

I lived in Reston for three years. Really loved it. I lived at Harbor Park, which is Buzzoto managed and is in the Northpoint Village area. There is also St. Johns Wood. Parc Reston is very nice, too. The only comment I have heard from several people is that Parc Reston is VERY noisy, as in, you will hear the people above and beside you.
