Satjnki - If you will be working in 22315, you might also consider looking at rentals over in 22152 (West Springfield). You could find a 3 or 4-bedroom townhouse for rent for approximately $2000/month in the Irving/West Springfield district. By DC/NoVa standards, this would still be a pretty decent commute.

How is the area around the Huntingdon Metro? I've seen decent rental prices, but wonder about the overall safety/

Pretty nasty, all in all. Search for "Huntington" within the Northern Virginia section to read some of my (and others') previous posts on this topic.

The big complexes in Huntington are fine. Not sure I'd walk to the Metro alone in the middle of the night, but the complexes themselves do not have crime problems.

So basically as long as you're only out during normal business hours, it's ok then? Car anytime else?

I used to live in northern NJ, so I'm familiar with good neighborhood/bad neighborhood being even the same block.

Depends on your comfort level.

I would say you're definitely fine to walk during the day, and there's usually people walking back and forth from the Metro on Huntington Ave and there's lots of car traffic.

Late at night, it gets a little less traveled, and some people are going to be uncomfortable with that walk. Muggings are rare, but they do happen occasionally. If I were new to the area, I think I would avoid that walk at night until I was more familiar with the neighborhood. That said, I know people who walk back and forth from the Metro in the dark and haven't had a problem.

There are Metrobuses that go the short distance from Huntington Metro to all of the big complexes, and those are safe.
