I want an old fashion, 4 poster bed, with carvings on the posts. I also need to furnish a rather large movie room. Also need bars stools. Any ideas on where to buy these things? Also looking for ideas for the movie room. Three tiers, how do I fill them? Sofas and chairs with tables? Lazy boys? A combination of the above?

Thanks!

No ideas on the movie room (other than it sounds like a lot of fun to have one!). For traditional furniture like the bed, though, here are a couple of suggestions:

E.A. Clore in Madison

Samuel Case in Purcellville

Patton's Furniture in Winchester

Happy shopping!

We built a small theatre and got everything from IKEA:

I know a lot of people like to use those heavy, built in couches. They'll give you a traditional "movie theatre" look. But, when we thought about it we decided lightweight, moveable chairs were more practical for two reasons: 1. The kids like to move the chairs to get specific effects for certain movies. 2. We also use the room for games and practicing musical instruments (since it's sound proof). So we like to move the chairs out of the way.

We built the theatre five years ago, and use it all the time. The wall is 12' wide and we usually project the full length of the wall. Very cool to watch the Olympics and the Superbowl with a picture that large.

We also decided against building platforms, this allows us to move furniture around, and also gave us a larger open area in front. The kids like to dance to concert films, and sometimes act along with the show. Also, it allows lots of extra seating when they have their friends over, as well as a place for me to exercise if I'm putting in an exercise video. We added velvet curtains to the front and back walls for more sound proofing and also to get that movie theater look.

We took these photos before putting up the curtains. It lets you see the equipment. We have a Sanyo PLV-60HT projector mounted 18 feet from projection wall. You can also see several pieces from the Polk Audio speaker system and Onkyo receiver. We decided to keep the pieces open, rather than build them into the wall. Makes it easier to replace equipment as designs change over the years.

ps. Be sure to think about air circulation if the room does not have a window. It becomes a real issue, especially if you like dancing. We tapped into the air ducts and added extra fans. Also, adding extra insultation and paneling to the ceiling really helps with soudproofing.

pss. BTW, this room is also a great place to hide out during an emergency. We actually camped out in here during Hurricane Isabel.

We just got furniture delivered from Roomstore, I definitely recommend it. We got a full master bedroom set w/ sleigh bed, and an entire dining room set, both very nice cherry wood.

They really have a good selection of many types of furniture. Also when they delivered it, it took them all of one hour to have everything brought in, taken out of the boxes, and assembled.

Best of luck finding what you need!

Honestly, the best place to get barstools in the DC area is from someone on craigslist. Especially since colleges just got out for the summer, I'd expect to see a lot of good bar equip. on there.

We did this type of theater seating with the center storage and cup holders. The room isn't large enough for tiers. With the size of teh room we did a "snack bar corner". The movie posters really help. The frames are great and not too expensive. They screw right into the wall and the frame snaps open and shut to make it easier to change the posters.

Dinettes and Stools in Arlington has a pretty good selection of bar stools - at least they did a few years ago.

Sheesh! If all of you folks in NoVA have media rooms/home theaters, then why are the movies in Brambleton always so jam-packed?! LMAO!

LOL, because you can't pay $8 for a small bucket of almost-stale popcorn at home. Its part of the 'experience'

(just kidding of course )
