I just found on their website that Mrs. Anita Tellez passed away Sept. 5, 2009. I remember walking into the tiny little Doughnut Dinette in Vienna in '74 which was being remodeled into a new restaurant. We met a diminutive woman with big blond bouffant hair and a heavy hispanic accent. We told her that we were happy that there was a Mexican restaurant opening in town. She corrected us saying "No, no, no, this is not ground beef, tortilla and cheese Tex Mex. This is New Mexico style cooking which is different." And I have been a fan ever since. I watched them open near my home in a closed Shrimp Boats location in Fairfax City, and after opening several others they opened their first all new building, their flagship store on the site of the original Penguin Feather record and head shop in Vienna.

Thanks Anita for bringing your wonderful food to our region Anita's New Mexico Style Mexican Food

Thanks for this. I will have to tell my daughter who is away at college. Her an Anita's granddaughter went to high school together and were pretty good friends.

I appreciate seeing this. We stumbled onto Anita's in Vienna over 30 years ago when we kept noticing what looked like a little "hole in the wall" restaurant was constantly packed. We went in and was pleasantly surprised. I remember seeing her there and driving around in her Rolls Royce.
