Hi guys, just moved here from Connecticut (Metro NYC) where I believe we are spoiled with amazing food. Now I need to find similar here and haven't been too impressed. We're in Round Hill, so it needs to be out Leesburg/Purcellville/Middleburg way.

In particular...please find me the best family style Italian (tradition spaghetti/meatballs, baked ziti etc.

Also, any German restaurants in the area?

And just your favs....

Thanks!!

Ahh, I totally hear you! I'm from NY originally, and it is quite difficult to find great restaurants that even come close to those in the NYC area. So far my favorite place in Loudoun Co is Blue Ridge Grill in Asbhburn (Brambleton). Some friends told me Ciro (just west of South Riding) has some great Italian. Some general advice for you, the closer you get to DC the worse the Italian food gets. Happy hunting!

The Best restaurant in Purcellville is Magnolia's at the Mill. Magnolias - Great food, wine, and beer in an American food restaurant located in a heart of Purcellville, Virginia

The best restaurants in Leesburg are Tuscarora Mill and Lightfoot. Tuskies and Magnolias have the same owner, Sean Malone. You'll see him there, big guy you can't miss him. http://www.tuskies.com/
Lightfoot is right next to the biker bar. It's in a beautiful old bank building. The Lightfoot Restaurant
For lighter fare and wine samplings, try the Wine Kitchen in Leesburg. The Wine Kitchen - Eat Drink, Simply.

I haven't heard of any German restaurants out here. There are Italian restaurants in Leesburg but I've only been to one and I wouldn't recommend it. The best pizza place there is Ledo Pizza. They have other dishes so you might want to try that with your family. The Beautiful South in Hamilton has ok Greek food. Lowry's has great hard shell crabs but it's too cold to eat outside and the inside is rather a dumpy.

I've never been impressed with any of the Middleburg restaurants plus Middleburg is at the other end of the county. If I'm going that far, may as well go to Fairfax county.

I've had dinner in Loudoun probably 20-25 times, always a bland meal at a chain restaurant.

I moved here from New England too. You need to remember there are far fewer Italians down here, so far fewer neighborhood Italian restaurants.

oh I know there probably won't be any Italian food to rival even just an "ok" place in our last town...I need to convince my amazing cook mother in law to come and set up shop! That and a bagel place, and I'd be happy

Thanks guys, already been to Tuscarora Mill and Magnolia, agree they are very good when you want continental. Hoping someone can recommend more!

Try Giovanni's in Leesburg, it's on Market Street in a strip mall, closest to NJ Italian we have found out your way. Also, there is a Blue Ridge Grill in Leesburg across the street from the outlet mall. I think the food there is better than the one in Brambleton and it has more of a "down home" atmosphere.

This is a little farther but I love it...In Herndon, Cantina Italiana or something like that. They also have a place in Fairfax and Winchester, I THINK. Excellent Italian food. I have gone there about 5 or 6 times and it has always been good. I live in Ashburn and it takes about 15 minutes to get there.

I personally do not like Tuskies or Lightfood. A little expensive for the taste...I lived in Philly and compare most food to the downtown places there and these just don't measure up in my opinion. They are okay.

I heard there is some good German food in Leesburg right across from Tuskies...Something Doner.

Good luck and welcome to the area!

My former office building was directly across the street from this place, and my colleagues really gave it good recommendations also. Thanks for the tip. I will have to scope it out soon! I'm DESPERATE at this point to go out on a date with someone, and I'd love to treat them to some good Italian! It's actually right over the Reston/Herndon border along Elden Street, near to the Route 7100 overpass. Bon apetit!

Actually, the Cantina D'Italia was my first thought for Italian food, but it is a little far from Round Hill. Food is good and the service is excellent.

Cantina d'Italia has some of the most delicious bread. But if you're willing to go as far as Herndon, you might try Zeffirelli.

Döner Bistro is the German place in Leesburg.
