I couldn't live in Brambleton unless I had a job out there though. I actually work in a mixed use community, Shirlington. Living there would be great because I'd never have to drive my car except on the weekends to go somewhere fun. But Shirlington is just so darned expensive.
I feel like a prisoner too! On Friday nights, my son often wants to carry-out from Chipotle (about 8 miles from the house). Getting there is not a problem (although tedious) but coming home would probably take me well over 30 minutes. So we just don't.ever.get.Chipotle.on.Friday!!!

When I bought my house 15 years ago, there was no such thoughts to mixed use communities. It was all about being off the beaten path, how far you could get away from your neighbor's house without spending a fortune. You know, everyone wanted a little piece of the "country" in suburbia--a respite if you will. But, 15 years later, yep, I just want to walk up to the store.

My coworker lives in a very old townhouse in Fairlington and she can walk to Shirlington. She loves where she lives but there are days where she envies the "spreadout" that we have in our neighborhoods.
