So, how did the first day back to school go? Were there any reports of kids getting hit by cars? Or any other big problems with letting the kids go back to school?

This morning driving into Arlington there were kids trudging over mountains of snow where the sidewalks weren't clear. I felt bad for them.

Good. I'm so glad there were no serious injuries. So I don't want to hear any more baloney about schools needing to be closed because it's too difficult to get there. That sends a terrible message to our kids.

I go to great lengths to teach my children to be strong, independent, and self reliant. Yes, I feel sorry that the kids have to struggle to get to school, but it's also teaching them that life sometimes has unexpected challenges and what you do is face them head on and overcome them. Facing challenges also teaches kids how to use common sense.

I don't want my kids to be taught to wait at home until life becomes easy again. If we do that, we'll have a generation of weaklings, and we'll teach our children to become whiners--because when you can't solve life's difficult challenges you learn to whine and whine and whine for SOMEONE ELSE to rescue you every time life isn't easy.

I don't want my kids to learn that.
