When I lived in Los Angeles I knew some people who stashed coke in the glovebox. But it wasn't the kind that came in a can...

Mmmm...I have a cell phone charger, owners' manual, spare automotive light bulbs, a few tools....and junk.

What I DON'T have in my glove box, or anywhere else in the car, is ANYTHING with my name and/or address on it. I don't want any car thief to know where I live...especially if I left my garage door opener, or my house keys laying on the seat! My wife and I carry our registrations in our wallets. Virginia auto registrations come in pairs...you can cut them in half, and two drivers are good to go. If there are more than two drivers, duplicate registrations are easily obtained for a dollar or two. Insurance cards often come in multiple copies...mine do, but if not, proof of insurance is not required to be carried in the vehicle in VA anyway.

Owner's manual, flashlight (that works), spare fuses and fuse puller, screwdriver, pen, small notebook, tire pressure gauge, papers for every oil change, tune-up, or other trip to the shop. Kleenex packet. Spare hacky sack. Parking receipt from the Renaissance Hotel in Pittsburgh...hmmm...

Like saganista, owner's manuals, flashlight, spare fuses, tire pressure gauge plus a change purse full of parking meter quarters. (I keep a library of local and regional maps in the door pockets).

I think that's about it.
Wow, this sounds like a mirror image of my glove box. The only extra thing I have that is not mentioned here is an air gauge to check tire pressure.

Never thought about that before. Great tip! As soon as I get back to town I'll take a look and remove anything that has my address (I suspect a few things do).

Regarding the canned drinks in Los Angeles, about 20+ years ago they had a law that forbade any liquids in open containers. I think it was supposed to keep people from getting distracted, and also from drinking alcohol while driving.

Back in the early 80's my son got pulled over for a DWB. He had a can of coke sitting in a box on the passenger seat and even though the can wasn't open they gave him a hard time about it. (The L.A. police were notorious for doing that, and sadly enough I hear they still are.). So even though it wasn't technically against the law from that time on we started putting soft drinks out of sight. In LA they will write you a ticket for any possible reason; sometimes for things that aren't really against the law. If you think it's bad here you should try driving there.

LOL, I've had a set of chem lights in my car for the last 15 years. Finally found a use for them this winter when we had a blackout during the blizzard. Actually, they work pretty well. If I replace them, I might just keep one by the side of the bed--just in case.
