The standard contract is 194 days. I'm not saying that is or isn't a lot, just stating the contract length regardless of "days off".

I'm not sure why you put "work shop" days in quotes.

I'm also curious, if you are willing to divulge: What is your profession wingerr8?

Other people are not just having wages frozen, they are having them cut. Many, many people. In fact just about all my friends who I know well enough to talk to about such things are dealing with pay cuts for themselves, their spouse, or both. That doesn't even include people dealing with job losses.

I understand that, and believe me I sympathize. My point is, when times are good, school staffs are expected to accept less and be ok with it. Minimal COLAs at best (2, maybe 3%). When times aren't so good, they still had not dare ask for anything?

When times are bad, they (and not just school staff, anyone) should be grateful they have a job at all.

Alternatively, a lot of people would appreciate having a job where COLAs and/or step increases are built in, even if the amounts fluctuate, and where they are applied across-the-board regardless of the merit of the individual employee. Some in the private sector do better than that and others do worse.
