I understand some basements have rooms/walls that are designated as "offices" or "dens" or something along those lines. What about basements where it's one giant room but the floor plan shows different areas...and the seller offers to finish the rooms piece meal? Does the carpet/drywall suddenly just stop at an invisible line? Does anyone have a photo to share or link? Thanks!

My idea of a "partially finished" basement is one that has a section with a room or rooms that are fully drywalled, has floor coverings, etc....then you walk through a door or doors into an unfinished section...exposed block or concrete walls, exposed ceiling joists and bare concrete floors.

Yup my basement is like that. We have a den and then you enter the door for the utility room and it's unfinished. The utility room is also where my washer/dryer is located so I don't see why it needs to be finished.

Aren't most washer dryer utility rooms finished?

We have several finished rooms in our basement, theater room, bar, bedroom, bath, pool table room, wine closet, and family room. Yes, they have walls, except that the bar/kitchen is open to the family room and pool room. Those rooms cover about 1800 square feet. Another 600 square feet is not finished. It's divided into two rooms, a storage room and the room with the furnace, hot water heater, water softener, etc. On the property records the big part is listed as ''finished basement''. The other part is included in ''basement'' square footage. So I suppose you could say that it's ''partially finished'' but I think most people would call it simply a finished basement since the vast majority of it is finished with walls, hardwoods, carpets, etc.

Mine is the same way, a wonderful finished above ground basement, yet I go into the utility room and and see insulation. I rent, so not inclined to fix it, but it really drives me a little nuts.

Since we are on the basement topic, I'm looking for recommendations on contractors to finish our basement. We are located in western Prince William County. Thanks.
