We'll be moving to the DC area for a couple of years later this summer. We want to find a nice apartment a short metro ride to Independence Ave. It would be nice if the apartment was in an area with a "neighborhood" feel with shopping within walking distance. Any suggestions anyone? We'll be able to pay up to $3,000 / mo. It will be just the 2 of us, so schools aren't an issue.

Oh, and I am an RN and will be looking for a good ER to work in, so I'd love any suggestions! Thanks all y'all!

Rhonda

Clarendon by a long shot, especially if you're 30 and under. $3000/month should give you all but the most exclusive options for 2BR apts most anywhere in Northern Virginia. Pentagon City is convenient enough - and probably a bit shorter commute to Independence Ave - with a decent-sized mall and other nearby shopping options but IMO there isn't much of a neighborhood feel there compared to Clarendon.

Also consider the Ballston, Court House and Virginia Square areas as they essentially blend together with Clarendon and are on the same Metro line.

Clarendon is a friendly, nicely habitable little mini city. It has little neighborhoods within the neighborhoods. If you enjoy walking to everything and using metro to get where you can't walk, then you'll enjoy Clarendon.

Clarendon, Courthouse or Ballston.

Clarendon easily. That said, I've tired of a lot of the d-bag bars in that area, but overall it's much more of a real neighborhood than Pentagon City.

Inova hospital systems has a pretty good stronghold in the northern VA area, just so you know. You can get to GWU in DC but for the most part, most of the hospitals in the northern VA area are Inova hospitals.

Except for Arlington Hospital, which is very close to Clarendon.

Also Georgetown and Sibley, both relatively easy shots from Arlington.
