i would visit the location. a lot of places have bad ratings because the same people post complaints under multiple identities to get back at the management. i noticed that with Carter Lake (a.k.a. Colvin Woods).

I live in the Sycammores, too. Maybe I expect too much, but I don't consider them to be "very nice" in the same sense that I consider a luxury apartment to be very nice. (I'm not sure I have any of the "updated" features, though.)

That said, I have no problems with the place and would recommend the place to someone else (even a friend or relative, ha!) without hesitation. I renewed my lease without a second thought.

Parking is sufficient. Even when I come home late on a Sunday night, I can get a space in my preferred area.

If one wants quiet, I recommend a "T1" or a "T2" unit if they are available. Because of the design of the garden style buildings, the "T" units have no shared walls with neighbors. (The neighbor is the storage unit for the building.)

Service is prompt. Heck, I think I only called them two or three times last year.

I've been a career renter... and this is the best place I've ever lived.

If you have older kids of middle school or above, you might reconsider renting near the Forest Edge Elementary with apartments such as Colvin Woods. There was a recent story about a fight among kids on the school bus. I've heard this is a recurring problem at the bus stops on Becontree Ln with groups arguing and fighting.

Glad to hear that the Sycamores are still a nice place to live. We lived there for 6 1/2 years in the 80s and liked it. However, recently, I was looking at reviews for it on different sites and one review mentioned people using drugs in the stairwells

Is this true? If so, in what buildings?

It's doubtful that anonymous703 will respond as they haven't made a single post in CD in 2.5 years. You are responding to a thread that is four years old. I wouldn't take this thread as proof that the "Sycamores are still a nice place to live".

I am/will be a new transplant here in the area and Im have the same question as the OP. (understanding that this is an old thread.) I appreciate the advice about parc @dulles and will check it out. I am noticing a strange item about whatever is south of the toll road... a lot of latin immigrants versus north of the toll road. Am I correct in this assessment?

My main goal is to live near the airport and save money. Im choosing to become a roommate at Carlton House but I truly would like to have my privacy while im in the DC area. Any other recommendations? Im here for today and tomorrow then I fly back to the west coast... any help would be appreciated.
