We moved to IN this year and went to the town hall to set up water/sewer, gave them our phone# and immediately started getting calls from every state & local FOP and police organization looking for a donation. It's annoying, and they start every call by saying, Hi, "John" or Hi "Mary" which I find creepy and big brotherish. I guess they gave our number because there's a phone alert system in case of emergency, which is good, but the use of the phone numbers for fundraising seems like it's taking advantage. They won't keep doing this every year will they? (Unless we give a donation, when of course they'd call back.)

I know what you mean .. this is why I have caller ID and never pick up the phone unless I know who is on the other end. Figure if it's important they'll leave a voicemail.

I have caller ID too but the Indiana State Police called back every day for about a week till I answered just to make it stop because just seeing the phone number was getting on my nerves.

Unfortunately, they will call every year. Charities are exempt from the state's do-not-call law. I just hang up on them. I don't care if they think I'm a jerk for it.

Its the same way in Illinois. The various police organizations have some VERY pushy personnel calling and looking for donations.

I get calls from the police organizations, too. They are annoying. All you can do is just say no!

I've found that companies these organizations hire to do their telemarketing have some awfully rude employees! Grrrrrrrrr. Nice way to represent the men and women who serve and protect us, huh?

I hate those calls.

A day or two after my MIL died, I answered the phone at her house and it was the police fundraising telemarketing call. I told them that she had passed away, and the man said something like, "yeah, sure, I'm sure she did. I'll call her back when she's alive"

Good luck with that, a@@hole.
