We transfered to chicago almost 3 years ago (from south) and decided we are going to buy in Chesterton this spring. We have visited Chesterton many times and wonder where do people go for shopping? I need to know where a mall, walmart, target are. Also I have 3 kids my oldest was invited into the u-46 school districts gifted program for 4th grade next year is there something similar in chesterton schools? Also need information on youth soccer program we are pretty heavy into the soccer program were we are now. okay one more, what is the name of that really yummy mexican resturaunt near downtown chesterton? It is in a strip mall
Thanks for all your answers in advance.

You need to go to the Chesterton school's website or contact the schools directly or the State's DOE site for information on the gifted programs.

As for malls ... there's a large mall in Merrillville/Hobart with most every store in the area. Valpo has some smaller malls of the strip kind and big box stores as well. Between those 2 ... you'll be covered.

Chesterton is a nice area. Domergurl is correct about the mall in Merrillville/Hobart area. When you purchase your home, don't forget the home inspection you will need. Check out my profile for my website.

I have lived in Chesterton my whole life pretty much. Theres alot of shopping in the area. I live off of hwy 20 so Michigan City is where I do alot of my shopping. There is a rinky dink little mall there, Marquette Mall, with a Pennys, Sears, and Carson Pierie Scott as the main stores... and a Outlet Mall towards the beach with all brand name stores like Old Navy and Ralph Lauren. There is also a brand new Super Walmart, a Meijer, and a bunch of home improvement stores. Not to Mention Strip Malls with everything you can think of.
If you go 10-15 minutes another direction your in Portage... Walmart, Kmart, Home Improvement stores, Kohls, and a Ton of Strip Malls.

15 Minutes South in Valpo, Theres Kohls, Target, Walmart, Strip Malls... Pretty Much ANYTHING you could want to tell ya the truth.
Also in Hobart is Southlake mall... And TONS of other stuff, I dont know how theres any room to build anything more. Every inch is covered with some store.
I think the Mexican Rest. you are talking about is El Salto? Theres another one too but its not in a strip mall... I reccomend El Amigo in Portage and Valpo... More of a take out kinda place... But I LOVE IT. There Burritos are amazing and as Big as your head. Lol, Sorry off subject a little. But the schools are great and with all the shopping so close its a great place to live.
