Married, 1 college and 2 younger kids.. Looking for something close to stores, not to much partying, not to far from Waikiki & still in a nice serene area.. I know we are asking for alot.. Any advice would be a blessing!!..... Thanks!!!

None of these areas are close to Waikiki. Are you looking to live close to good schools or jobs?

Waipahu or Ewa would be closest, but if your commuting into Honolulu or Manoa everyday, you're looking at 45 min to 1 hr or more, each way, everday.

Waianae & Wahiawa would be the furthest from Waikiki/Honolulu. These two would also be at the bottom of my list, but thats JMHO.

I don't know if you posted it previuosly, but what is bringing you to Oahu? Jobs or school? That would help in giving advice.

Moving my family to Oahu in July as well, from Wisconsin. I went to High School at a couple different places, including Waianae. While Waianae was good to me back then, I suggest Kapolei or Eva considering the influx of jobs to that area.

We are going to move to Waikiki because, well, that was my favorite place on Oahu. Its a bit expensive but my wife is a cosmetologist and Im in management. So it makes sense for us to be within walking distance to potential jobs. My other choice is Hawaii Kai. Its expensive but has the necessities needed (Costco and so on) and good schools. Not too long of a drive to Waikiki either.

I gave him/her a rep. I like honest responses, especially to questions that have been asked 10,000 times on this forum. I agree people should do a modicum of research before posting.

The poster asked an honest question and no need to slam the poster for asking. If you don't like the question, then don't answer it. Easy.

Even if it is a repeat question that has been on here a thousand times before, it still dosent call for rude short ended answers. Think about it if people dont ask questions then why are we all on here looking to help others?

Just a side note, Kapolei now has a Costco and Target. Also a Costco up the H2 in Waipio. Heard Target signed a lease in Kailua Town, as well.

And...ta dum! Bed, Bath & Beyond just opened in Pearl City.

None of those areas are close to Waikiki.. from all of them you are at least 30 mins away (doing the speed limit, lol).

Waipahu--try waipio for condos and waikele for single family homes. Not very serene.

Waianae--very far away from honolulu and waikiki, plus there's not much out there in terms of a variety of restaurants, shopping, etc. Nice beaches, laid back.

Wahiawa--central location, small town feel, close to the North Shore, older town. More serene/quiet. Gets a bad rap but there are nice homes, just older, plantation homes.

Ewa (including Makakilo, Kapolei)--Hot, lots of different developments (both older and just being built). Some shopping/restaurants but not much to choose from.

If you are looking to be closer to Honolulu and Waikiki, I would suggest looking at the Pearl City, Aiea, Halawa, Manoa.
