Moving to Oahu next July... Taking a trip out there in Feb.. checking out apartments... How are these areas???

None of these areas are close to Waikiki. Are you looking to live close to good schools or jobs?
Waipahu or Ewa would be closest, but if your commuting into Honolulu or Manoa everyday, you're looking at 45 min to 1 hr or more, each way, everday.
Waianae & Wahiawa would be the furthest from Waikiki/Honolulu. These two would also be at the bottom of my list, but thats JMHO.
I don't know if you posted it previuosly, but what is bringing you to Oahu? Jobs or school? That would help in giving advice.

Joliefille- Wow thanks for the info. I am actually taking a trip out there soon. Have been on the islands a zillion times, just never lived there, so wanted some local info.. Thanks for not minding.. Moving to Hawaii has always been a dream.. Work will be from home and lots of weekend work (all over the island)...

Moving my family to Oahu in July as well, from Wisconsin. I went to High School at a couple different places, including Waianae. While Waianae was good to me back then, I suggest Kapolei or Eva considering the influx of jobs to that area.

Just a side note, Kapolei now has a Costco and Target. Also a Costco up the H2 in Waipio. Heard Target signed a lease in Kailua Town, as well.
And...ta dum! Bed, Bath & Beyond just opened in Pearl City.

None of those areas are close to Waikiki.. from all of them you are at least 30 mins away (doing the speed limit, lol).
