Though Hawaii ranks among the very highest states for good health and longevity, recently Honolulu has been listed as one of the cities with the highest levels of hexavalent chromium, a known and very serious carcinogen, in the drinking water supply. Considering the usual sources for this kind of contamination, it is a bit of a mystery why it is being found in such levels in Honolulu. Filtering water there, at the least, is recommended. Thought I'd pass this on for those who are health conscious.
Have you seen the military presence on Hawaii?
The military is still largest user of hexavalent chromium for corrosion and they have exempt themself from regulations. Last year they did decide the beast was something they cant control and the harm has way gone pass any benefits so they will start phasing its use out.
Although they did recognize the longterm harm, and admit they new the dangers and ignore them, they did say they were sorry and expect you to forgive and forget.

Well, yeah, at one time I was a part of the military presence in Hawaii ... and you are absolutely right about their use of bad chemistry and their cavalier attitude, as well ... what I didn't get was how that worked its way into the city's water supply as virtually all the anti-corrosion work is in Pearl Harbor (which everyone knows is not recreationally safe) and Pearl in no way connects to the fresh water reservoirs which fill from the rains up in higher elevations. But, no doubt, the military must be the source.
Does anyone know if Kailua (Oahu) has the same water supply? Mahalo
