I saw an apartment complex called Oasis in Waipahu. They are pet friendly and seem reasonably priced for their townhome acommodations.

What is your opinion on the neighborhood and life in that area?

I will be commuting by bus to the university of hawai'i area.

Should I sacrifice the commute for a 2br/1b townhome in Waipahu that's worth the same as a studio apt in Waikiki?

Thanks!

Did you find anything in Kapolei by chance? What about Ewa Beach?

Waipahu, in general, is up and down. There are some bad places, like Aniani Street for instance, and there are some decent places, like around the Oasis apartments. Close to the freeway entrance which is nice and it's by the shopping center too.

Try looking at those two cities I mentioned above. I definitely think Waipahu would be worth it but on the other hand, I would choose Kapolei or Ewa Beach over Waipahu.

Hope this helps and if not, ask me a question. ;-]

Try Waipio Gentry, a little bit nicer than Waipahu, same commute

its in a SEEDY area, lots of low income residents

id go with kapolei/ewa/waipio/waikele, or stay with Waikiki if you want that "hawaii" experience

Very nicely put survivorqt! :-]

Oh yeah Waipio is pretty nice too. Better than Waipahu at least.

It also depends on what kind of commute you want into town as well.
