I do a lot of online shopping. After a while the "Call for shipping costs to Alaska and Hawaii" and the surcharge stuff gets really old.
Amazon.com is my absolute go-to store for lots of things. Free shipping to ALL the USA for many items if you spend over $25.
Macys.com will give you free shipping when they have their "FREE SHIPPING!" offers. JCPenney.com will not. The good thing about Macys.com is that you can return items that you've ordered to local Macy's stores---sometimes (check the fine print).
Zappos.com has free shipping, including free returns. Same for Shoes.com.
As far as big appliances go, we've bought from Best Buy, Sears, Home Depot, and Lowe's. Home Depot has very good prices on extended warranties (Sears is ridiculous) and very often the best prices during their sales. Costco has great deals on televisions, especially, with the cheapest extended warranties on the planet. We're not huge fans of extended warranties on most products but on big appliances they've saved us a small fortune.
Circuit City used to be here but closed a few years ago. JC Penney pulled out of Hawaii at least ten years ago.
We didn't bring any furniture and are glad we didn't. Our mainland furniture never would have physically fit into the first place we lived in (condo) and although it would have fit in our present house size-wise I don't think it would have looked right, esthetically. Mission-style, oak. No....even though I've seen some Mission-style pieces in a few furniture shops here I don't think it really flies in Hawaii. Since the people who bought our mainland house also wanted to buy a lot of our furniture it was an easy decision. What they didn't want went to family and friends.
As time goes by you just adapt to the lack of stores here. You get to the point where "that'll do" and "good enough" become words to live by, LOL.
I think Ikea would do very well here. Portable packable stuff, great prices. I don't know why they haven't pursued the Hawaii market.
The only store I really miss is Trader Joe's. Another missed market, IMHO.

When I moved, courtesy of the Federal government, I brought EVERYTHING. Easier to offload once you're there than to replace stuff at Hawaii prices. Congratulations on your new job (and life!).

To add to the list of stores that offer free shipping: Bed, Bath & Beyond. Same deal, if you don't like it, you can return it to the store in Pearl Ridge. I also have bought "beachy" things from Bealls of Florida. They often have a shipping deal, like everythings shipped for $5 bucks. I'm sure they're very suprised when the see my order going to Hawaii!

Thanks, Jolie!
And if anyone is in need of nursing scrubs, Taffords.com offers free shipping on all orders over $25. Decent selection, including their own line of very inexpensive scrubs.

Scrubs | Nursing Scrubs | Medical Scrubs | Nursing Uniforms at Tafford

There are a few uniform stores here but I find the selection really limited and overpriced (sounds like a recurring theme for many stores here, lol...).
