Hello All!

My husband and I, who have been married 5 years, together for 8 altogether, are finally going on our honeymoon in Oahu. We have dear friends who live in Kapolei and we'll be staying with them for half of our trip. For the other half, we'll be staying in Turtle Bay. We really look forward to it!

We plan to renew our vows while we're there. I've been in touch with someone I found online, but I feel like a lot of the people who advertise online charge way more than it's really worth. I can understand that it's supposed to be a special time, but we really just want to keep it simple. We're non-theists, so we're hoping to find a minister or officiant to renew our vows who can work with the fact that we don't want any religious undertones. We're pretty flexible with the Hawaiian customs though and would really love to have that worked into the ceremony.

As far as location goes, we have a few places in mind already. Since we're only having the couple we're staying with for half of the trip join us, I was told that we don't need a permit or anything for any of the beaches.

If anyone has suggestions for great officiants who don't charge an arm and a leg, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks for your time!

I don't know of anyone who can do it for you...but my wife and saw a couple get married at Hidden Beach. Awesome setting for this kind of thing. (SE side of island just before sandy's and the holona blowhole).

Many wedding planners and officiators (of the non-religious type) also perform renewal of Vows. I would google "oahu wedding planner" and call a few to see what you can find out.

Default Already went the Google route

Thanks for replies and suggestions. I went the Google route and searched many variations of finding a wedding officiant, but was not satisfied with the results. Many seem to be overpriced for what is offered for vow renewals. They're otherwise reasonable for weddings, but we already had an awesome wedding that was kind of a big deal, so we really want this renewing of vows to be very minimal and simple. I also tried searching this forum for suggestions, didn't quite find any, so I started this thread to hopefully get input from the locals or perhaps find an officiant through here (if anyone who comes across this thread are one, I'd love to hear from you).

Hopefully I can find one that is reasonably priced soon. Mid-October is quickly approaching.

Thanks for the suggestion. I emailed the resort and they tried to sell an upgrade to the reservations we've already made. Because the intent is something very simple, I declined the offers, as we've already had the whole shebang wedding years ago. I was pretty disappointed about the attempt to push a sale on me and the email didn't feel very personal, nor did it seem like the person who replied read my email at all. Ah well. I have been in touch with someone to renew our vows, but I don't think it'll be exactly the way we want it. We may not go through with it at all and just do it some other time, some other place.

I would suggest you call the church of your faith in Kapolei, and ask them. Here is a list of Kapolei Churches:

G'morning Christina!

I hope you find/found an official to help you to renew your vows, but..., and I say this with the utmost respect, why do people do that? I've been married for thirty-six years and cannot understand this trend. Can anyone clue me in?

Love,

Mahrie. http://stillthevision.truepath.com/images/emoticons/angel3.gif (broken link)
