Has anyone lived for awhile on the windward area anywhere from the MCAS / Kamehameha Hwy up to the northern coast ? Too windy or rainy ? Commute times to downtown area no big deal?
Less crowded is appealing compared to Ewa-Honolulu-Waikiki, Salt lake or Miliani areas ?
A previous co-worker of mine lived in Kailua, and one of my current co-workers lives in Kaneohe, up against the mountain. Both of them take the Pali, and it takes about 30 min....about the same time it takes me to get to work from Waikiki. lol.
The guy that lives close to the mountain told me just yesterday at lunch that when he goes through the tunnel (all 3 roads over the mountains have tunnels), it's like a change of perspective. He says the stress of the city washes away and he relaxes a bit. Everything is green on the windward side, more so than the leeward side due to the increased rain. He said he gets alot of rain, but doesn't really mind. Since he is closer to the mountain it gets cooler there as well, he said it was about 58 when he left for work yesterday.
So, are you making the move then, or still considering it?

Definitely moving this year, likely windward side as I do not mind cooler/windy if there, and more rain. Congestion may be less intense, and commutes are not an issue as I am retired. A few realtors are keeping eyes open for practical lease locations possibly nearer the Polynesian Cultural center area , or along the main coastal highway for future bus system use. I will drive my car for periodic food/shopping/medical trips to the military facilities or medicare doctor, but enjoy meeting people and seeing things using public transit, and seniors fares are quite reasonable too, especially with annual passes. I would enjoy bus trips to the various areas and get off and explore when it looks interesting. Too, bus use may mitigate parking fees at places and traffic hassles which reduce enjoyment. I go with the flow and enjoy "being".
