OK...I need HELP! I've never turned to a blog for help but I no longer know where else to go. I have been looking for a place to rent for a long while now. I have a 20 lb. dog, which my vet is willing to write a letter of reference as to his great behavior. I have a husband with a rare blood cancer...in remission. We can't afford much as anyone with cancer or, has ever known anyone with cancer knows the amazing costs to treat and to care for someone so ill. If we don't find a kind person soon that will rent to us in such a situation...we will be homeless. Does anyone out there in Honolulu know of anyone looking for a quiet couple and a very loved dog? I am ashamed to say, but really, all we can afford is $1,200. at the most. My husband can not climb stairs, tho he can walk. Someplace between Queen's Hospital, Nuuanu, Makiki thru Kaimuki is desired, but anyplace offered outside of these areas are appreciated as well. A parking stall is a must, as my husband has a difficult time walking too far. So, that's my story/request/search...will someone help?
Thank you for your reply. My husband's health is such that sharing a home with strangers is not possible as he has a weak immune system. His current care is high need. The doctor's expect his immune to recover within a years time, but until then he needs to be isolated as much as possible.
You don't need to move to the mainland due to cancer unless you cannot find the care that your husband needs here. Queens, as well as other resources, ARE able to successfully care for many types of cancer patients. It is an individual situation, and a blanket statement that leaving is necessary is just not justified.
As for the dog, well, putting your husband's health first, you might need to rehome the dog. At least for awhile. You mention that you cannot share a household due to needing isolation as much as possible. Since your husband's health takes a priority, and your selection of homes is limited, you might need to look into rentals that would work for you but won't take pets. There are organizations that help foster animals, you might have success with that until you can be reunited with the dog.
Good luck to your ohana.
