I'm sorry, but Leonard's malasadas _are_ donuts, at least they resemble the things people call donuts in the other states. I don't know what a true malasada is, but some locals have steered me to the ones you get at Punahou carnival, and that's my new definition. Already booked tikets to be there first weekend of Feb, 2013.

Check out Leonard's website. It explains and shows what a malasada is. Short explanation: similar to a donut, but more rounded and with no hole, has egg in the dough, sprinkled with sugar, of Portugese heritage.
