Greetings,

I am curious to know what the teacher job situation is looking like for Oahu. I am thinking of moving back to the area. I just got my certification with South Carolina in Elementary Education. So I am looking for a job in that field. I am a male with 3 years of full-time high school teaching experience. One of those years was at a private school there on the island.
Just curious if it will be difficult for someone from the mainland who isn't Hawaii certified to find an elementary teaching job for the new 2013-2014 school year.

Thoughts?

plenty of people post on here looking for teaching positions and get a position and move here - you just have to decide if you can live on the wages they pay you - mid 40's or so.

good to know the summary of other's. Yeah, living on the island isn't cheap. My income was no more than 30k when I was there. For the year I was there, I didn't own a vehicle. I just biked everywhere, or took the bus.

I would think that as more private schools come online, there will be openings. Not sure how many more newer public schools are being built nor am I sure if the current schools are fully employed. From my time on island a few years ago, my friends that were substituting at high schools indicated that was where the shortages of teachers resided. You probably have contacts from before that you can now begin to network. Good luck to ya.
