It's part of participating in an anonymous internet forum, there is sometimes not "much to go" except impressions. Throwing racism into a first post is something that raises eyebrows. With your focus on racism and worry, you might be right about your not fitting in at UH after all.

In general, would say you can expect to be treated as you are treat others. I am Caucasian and haven't experienced anything that I could describe as racism. Sure, I've encountered a few people that weren't sweet as pie but I chalked it up to that being their personality and not anything to do with me. If you come with a friendly, humble attitude, you'll be just fine and I'm sure you'll make many friends.
