I will be moving from Hilo on the Big Island to Honolulu in August and will be shipping my car over. I think I will be using Young Brothers. They say you can pack your car with belongings, but they are not responsible if the items go missing. Has anyone had experience shipping their cars and have items gone missing? Trying to figure out if it is worth the risk to leave anything in the car.
Also does anyone know of any other means of shipping cars inter island? Costs?

I think you will, too, because Young Brothers is your only choice.* They have a regulated monopoly on interisland shipping, which is an incentive and requirement to also service the smaller islands, like Lanai and Molokai, instead of just hitting the more lucrative major ports.
*The only exception is that Pasha was awarded provisional approval through the end of 2013 to load and unload cars and rollaboard cargo for intermediate stops on their bimonthly Oahu-Maui-Hawai'i pass through the islands.

At several points in the journey your car will be unlocked and unsupervised. Plan accordingly.

Vehicles Registered in Another County
Your vehicle must be registered in the county in which it is being driven. The following lists the requirements to change your vehicle registration from the counties of Maui, Kauai, or Honolulu to the County of Hawaii:
Complete an Application for Registration form. The registered owners as indicated on the certificate of registration must sign the application.
Submit the other county’s certificate of registration.
Submit the other county’s certificate of title if you are listed as the lienholder.
Registration personnel, if required, will determine the fee.

YES! I'd not leave anything in the car that I really cared about. YB is good company, and we've used them many times. But still, putting anything of value in an unlocked car is unwise.
