Currently in escrow right now for a home in Ewa Beach. If everything goes smooth with the appraisal and underwriting I'll be moving next month. I will be getting a 20' Matson to move my belongings from OAK to HNL. Anyone know the parking restrictions for having a shipping container in your front yard? I plan on scheduling movers to unload the container when it arrives so it won't be in the street that long. TIA!

My friend just went through this in Kailua. If it's on private property (yard or driveway) then no problem. If it's on the street curbside for any length of time you need a permit from the City & County. You also have to drive down and pickup the folding construction barriers yourself too to place on either side of it.

Eventually the County will get after you if you leave a container in your front yard too long (that is, if a neighbor complains). But I'm guessing that you are only talking about a few days, not weeks or a month(s) since it is rented container. On the street for a few days is not a problem as long as you are not blocking a hydrant or someone's driveway, etc.

Thanks everyone for your input!

I called HPD up and they told me to contact Street Usage.

Schedules and Permit Information, Official Web Site for The City and County of Honolulu

I called them up and they said a permit is needed. Just need to go to their office 5 days before the container arrives. The permit is free. HTH
