**Cable & Internet
I have used both HawaiianTel and Time Warner for internet. HawaiianTel is about $40 per month, and works great...as long as they can get service to you. Some places they just don't have the equipment yet. I truly enjoy having the DVR from HawaiianTel, can't imagine watching TV without one. Time Warner was ok.
**Sharks
I have a friend who dives every weekend with a group of friends. They rarely see any sharks. There are a few areas that are known as "Sharky" - but most of the beaches where people swim are not. Monk Seals are supposed to be fewer in numbers than the sharks and I see one of them every 3-4 months or so.
**Radiation I am not concerned in any way. Unless there are chunks of debris from the reactor floating within 20' of me in the water there is no danger. Water is a moderator for radioactivity...kinda like dirt is to sound.
**Racism
It is not really that bad. The biggest thing that will effect employment at this point is his lack of tenure on island. Companies take a risk hiring people from the mainland who are not already adjusted to the differences in life here. They do take the risk...I'm here after all. I am about as white as they come, and don't really have issues with racism. As others have said, it is a very asian influenced culture...keep quiet and mind your own...no problems. Get angry, boisterous, impatient, or have unreal expectations, then there's friction.
