In the past I had promised to do this once I got enough material to do it. It was difficult to find good quality material because technology wasnt all that advanced in the past. Some of the film i have is in great shape and some not so great. Please remember technology wasnt all that great so colors may not be so great.
Often you hear residents of Hawai'i complain about tourists or newcomers comming to Oahu, but not everything is bad. One positive is tourists and newcomers are really great at recording history. Most of the film on this tread is recorded by tourists vacationing on Oahu. Portions of the films don't necessary show Oahu in the past, or just shows tourist traps. Feel free to skip forward.
You might be asking why is this important? What does this have to do with the present? As we take our trip back in the past to recent present, pay attention to the landscape and backgrounds, colors. Oahu is a gorgeous place. This is going to be a long trip, so you may want to take it in portions.
It was hard to find any good footage of Oahu, in the 70s, just quality of film. But found some. Once again pay attention to the scenery and landscapes.
Of course this was just a small picture, but i hope you now understand how important it is to preserve oahu as much as possible. That has always been my message all along, and is what we can learn from the past.
I've got to find the time go grab a glass of Merlot and a bag of popcorn to watch it all. I wish there were more untouched areas on the island but when you find them they're breathtaking. Looking out on the water is always mindblowing for me. Especially on the Windward side.
