Does anyone know of any rental properties close to Honolulu that are bigger dog friendly (two 65 pound dogs)? I'm currently in Kaaawa. The dogs can have current and previous landlords vouch for them. I'm looking for under $2,000. I know it's pretty much a long shot, but just maybe!

Mahalo!

Did you search on Craigslist for dog friendly places? Cirrus management at 441 Walina will take up to 2 dogs of any size. Most but not all condos have number and size restrictions.

Note that Cirrus charges rent for pets, $75 per pet per month.

Website says up to 3 dogs, rent $30. I'd gladly pay that.

Any other places you guys know of? I've searched and called all over, but this is the first place I've found like this! There's light at the end of the tunnel!!!

Sorry, I had 3 cats, it was $25 per pet in 2011. Other than pet rent, Cirrus was easy to deal with.

I might be able to help with Waikiki...

As you are finding, the pet friendly market is super competitive. There were a couple places near Tusitala that put signs on the road stating rentals available, pets ok. Some property mgmt companies don't allow pets even if the building does, so that tightens the market a bit. I have also seen listings that are only placed in the lobby or on a property manager's website.

What I did was to watch Craigslist. You will see some common listings that never seem to get rented, the scammers, and occasionally the good listings. It's the good one's that you and 300 other people are watching for. Once you get good at seeing them, you become more competitive at getting a good place.

Another tool is to check out the pet friendly building list at oahure.com. This will give you a listing of pet friendly buildings. From there you can look for units in certain buildings and could go check out their lobbies for posted rental unit signs.

Ewa Beach is a long ways but The Waterfront. I have friends with 2 Great Danes there. Lots of dogs there. Dog park and dog beach. If you can get on base you can commute by kayak across Pearl Harbor.

What if my 2 dogs happen to be lab/staffordshire terrior...they start to skim the line of breed restrictions, dog racism! My pups were raised near many other ankle biter dogs and infants/children. They are insanely well behaved and trained. Their best friend is the neighbors cat. They take naps on the patio together.

No no no. The answer is "Lab mix". That's not a lie. There are other similar dogs at the dog park at the Waterfront. I can tell you (and others will, too) Traffic is insane. But we did it for a year. I worked at the JBPHH, base, and Jeff worked right at the Airport. We didn't go downtown for work. I had a coworker who lives in Ewa and he goes early and has no problems. He takes the back roads to the base. I think he works 0600-1430. No real traffic issues.

I sincerely hope you've had their blood drawn, if not, do it yesterday!!!
