"2014 Free Hawaii DMV New to State Practice Test | Free DMV Practice Tests"

20 questions? not nearly enough to get your feet wet. I have a friend that put up a site just for local residents in Hawaii and his website is free. The great thing is the manual is on his website with the PDF highlighted for studying. There is also 3 tests totaling 170 questions. Keep it local!

It shouldn't take anywhere near that long. If you are a resident, you have to be living somewhere. Rental agreement or escrow papers on a purchase are proof of address. A letter addressed to you from the HOA is a proof of address. Contract for a PO Box is proof of address. Even writing a letter to yourself with your new address and mailing it gives you a post marked envelope where the post office declares that you live there at that address.

A library card is probably proof of address, and those tend to be easy to obtain. A new bank account is proof of address, and if you are moving to Hawaii, you will need a bank account. An insurance card for the car is proof of address. An insurance policy for homeowners or tenant's insurance is proof of address. And on and on.

Hawaii didn't care that I had a military ID, Federal CAC card, valid US passport, current MS state DL, SS card all w/current name, they wanted me to dig up marriage and divorce certs from 30 yrs ago to show name changes. That's just so much BS. (It wasn't a requirement for my job)

I saw a Maui County job posting a while back that had a note that someone who was hired would have to be able to obtain a HI driver's license within 30 days of being hired. Seemed more than reasonable to me.

No disrespect meant, however this is why sometimes non-resident advice goes astray. Your answers are kinda "good common sense," however State of Hawai'i has new, specific rules on this which you seem unfamiliar with. A rental agreement of less than 6 months duration is not acceptable.

Nope, nope, and nope.

Nope

Agreed, but what the State accepts as proof is a mailed statement, which you normally won't have for more than a month.

Ooops, no. Not on the list

The point being, the State of Hawai'i just tightened up their rules for proof of residence for a Driver's License, and it's something to be aware of if it might affect your plans.

You can check the actual State requirements on this chart: http://www.hawaiicounty.gov/finance-...ceptable-docs/
