Beach parks have grills so you can do like the natives do and grill out! That would be great at Bellows because there are lots of shade trees. mmmm...wait... are there grills there off the military part of Bellows?

I remember at one time Bellows did have grills. Believe they were at the cabins. Its been awhile since i was there. If you tent camped, you brought your own grills. Of course you have to get reservations way ahead of time. Being school will be back in session. Will be easier getting reservations.

As suggested, just sign up for the discount wherever you go. I go to Foodland and with the discount, only pay about 5-10 bucks more per week for groceries than I did living in Indiana. Their regular prices are high, but with the discount it can sometimes knock huge chunks off of your total bill. No matter what, you're going to pay more for perishable produce because of shipping. But other than that, it's not that bad. I spent about 45-50 a week in Indiana and spend around 50-60 a week here. Just buy based on what's on sale instead of being steadfast and definitive on what you want.

Even though food prices are higher, it's still less expensive to cook your own meals.

OP: I would do what you said, plan for balance with some eating out and cooking in. If you are staying in Waikiki there are several places to eat, but you will get prices on the other side of the Ala Wai canal.
