Why the heck do people dream of Honolulu, or Oahu at all? I can see dreaming about Kauai, Big Island, or Maui... But Oahu is basically an expensive, mediocre metro area with a few nice beaches. Seriously, think of the worst small city you have been to and Honolulu is probably worse. Now think of the nicest city you have been to. Honolulu is more expensive.

I think folks dream of Oahu because of the Hawaii Tourism Authority and the Visitors Bureau. They spend MILLIONS of dollars making Hawaii seem like a dreamy fantasy land (which it is, if you are a tourist). So, folks see the hype and want to live here. It's somewhat similar to planning to live in Disneyland, IMHO, but they don't mention that in the tourist advertisements.

Probably thinks people live in grass huts. Lie at the beach all day drinking Mai Tais.

To be fair. Some do-theyre called home-challenged citizens.

I went to White Plains beach today and it was full. So instead I went and hung out in Office Max because it's air conditioned. Now I'm at home where it's 94 degrees and I wish I had stayed at Office Max a little longer
