Heading to Honolulu next month--are there any good sites for finding Kama'aina rates? Going to each hotel website individually is time consuming, and I'm not finding anything very substantial, anyway. Is calling directly better than online?
You probably aren't finding anything substantial as Oahu just had the 4th straight year of record tourism - so the hotels are often sold out or nearly sold out.
Best you can do is Google Kamaaina rates Oahu and brute force check them out one by one - or, call - as not hotels list Kamaaina rates online.
do you have a driver's license in Hawaii? the rate is normally not extended unless you have one. not a state ID but driver's lic.
I do have a Hawaiian DL, but your information does not seem to be accurate. I've been on over 25 hotel websites, and all of them state a Hawaiian state ID is required.

whtviper: Can I sleep on your floor? You said I didn't exist a while back, and I'd like to prove that I do (and I'd also like to save $800).
The Ala Moana hotel has kama'aina rates - still around $150/night though. You should try homeaway or airbnb -- you can find rooms under $100/night on these sites. I've used them before and never had any problems. Look for listings that have good reviews.

if you can get a discount by showing either a lic. or an id good for you. I do know there are lots of places here that will not take an id but insist on a lic. too many cheap tourist looking for a discount that don't really live here.
I have never gotten a kama'aina discount on Oahu... You can get military discounts here
Kamaaina discounts can be very good - I've often paid under $100/night in Waikiki at some of the Aqua Hotels - it just needs to be off peak (not NYE, marathon, Spring Break, conventions, etc)
