Moving to Hawaii in one year (neighborhoods, school, university)

I am 21 years old and currently attending University. I am a Tourism and Events Management major and Conservation Biology minor. If everything goes as planned I will be set to graduate Spring 2017. One of my graduation requirements is to complete a summer internship, which I am trying to arrange to do in Oahu. I need all the advice I can get on moving to the Island; neighborhoods, transportation, cost of living, whether or not internships like this are common, if I should also look into Maui... I spent 4 years in Maui when I was younger and have visited twice in the past couple years. I hope everything works out but also want to be realistic.

Can you see if any of your instructors know anyone at the University of Hawaii? Although, the U of H professors are probably already trying to find spots for their students, so that may not work. Does your school help any with setting up internships?

Once you find out where your internship will be, then you can get into the specific details.

I'm guessing you want to work in ecotourism. If I were you I would major in conservation biology and get the minor in tourism & events.

Yes thejackalope, I would like to work in ecotourism. However, I am so far along in my tourism curriculum. I need just several courses left to complete my degree reuqirements.

My school does help with finding internship positions, but more for local opportunities. Thabks for your input. I know finding an internship site is going to take some time.
