We'll be back on Oahu for the 1st week of May. Will the waters have calmed significantly from what they would be like in, say, March? I'm hoping places like Waimea Bay and Kailua/Lanikai might be calmer than on our past trips.

Kailua/Lanikai rarely has huge waves - certainly not epic sized like the North Shore. As far as the North Shore - it should be calmer, but El Nino has been firing up a lot of storms north of the islands this year, so who knows exactly what it will be like.

Yes the waters should have improved from earlier in the winter months.
But every year is different depending on how the weather and conditions are, El Nino for one.

I would point out that they cancelled the Eddie for the year because the waves a few weeks ago were tourist grade, then suddenly it's back on this week because the waves are choice.

At the end of February. A month out of season.

The only thing I'm willing to predict for May is that the waves will be WET.
