I do believe some of you are interested in doing the right thing and want to avoid illegal vacation rentals on Oahu.
As I've mentioned before, they are practically all in Waikiki in a handful of properties.
In the link below - you will find every property on Oahu that has a Non-Conforming Certificate (legal vacation rental) right down to unit # (just because someone says it is legal doesn't mean it is - it is the INTERNET after all).
This list is only partially accurate because it only lists "Non-Conforming" Certificates. Meaning, it lists individual Condo/Residential Units that are NOT Zoned to allow Vacation Rental's but have obtained a legal permit to allow them to operate as Vacation Rentals (i.e. "Non-Conforming" Certificates).
There are many other "LEGAL" Vacation Rental Condo's in Waikiki. They are not on the "Non-Conforming" list because the building zoning allows vacation rentals. Thus they are Legal Vacation rentals and do not require a "Non-Conforming" Certificate.
For Example: Both "The Ilikai" and "Waikiki Shores" are condo buildings that have many LEGAL Vacation rental condo's but are not on that "Non-Conforming Certificate" list because they are not required to obtain a "Non-Conforming Certificate" due to the existing zoning of the building.
I would also add that there are legal vacation rentals on VRBO that require 30 day minimum bookings.
Just so we don't confuse everyone a 30 day or more (less than 6 months) is considered a short-term rental on Oahu not a vacation rental but it is subject to extra taxes if it is less than those six months
My point was that these properties are legally advertised on Vacation Rentals By Owner VRBO and Craigslist under vacation rentals. Seeing them there does not make them illegal and renting your Kailua for 30 days minimum does not make it legal.
Thanks so much for posting this! I recently secured a rental in Kailua that was advertised as being legal, but I wasn't sure how to verify. I'm happy to see that it is on the list.

Was this a typo? I thought the point you were making was that 30 day rentals are in fact legal.

Nope. You have to be legal to rent even for 30 days.
