all the times I stopped by Waimanalo Beach, it was almost completely deserted.

that is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island.

is there something I dont know? why isn't it packed with tourists? maybe theres too many sharks in the water?

Yeah I was over there on a Saturday a month or so ago and it was packed (by Waimanalo standards, on the McD's side) still nothing like Ala Moana on a weekend when the fatboyz are sitting around under the mimosa trees eating all day, though.

I also think part of it is due to the distance from Waikiki, and the reputation of being theft alley. Lots of broken car windows over there

If you went at lunch time, everyone was probably eating at Keneke's.

No doubt, a lot of them just BBQ it up themselves as well. Always smells great, makes me even more hungry after an hour swimming in the calms there

Compared to Waikiki it is empty, compared to years ago it has gotten more crowded with tourists likely due to social media and being ranked as top beach in a magazine sometime ago. Historically that area of the island has had the reputation of being little rough and being on the windward side it has a higher likelihood of being rainy or overcast. On a nice day it's great, but other days the water isn't so nice.
