Thank you to anyone that can give information. I visited Hauula last year and liked the area because it is away from the tourist area. I don't see much information about Hauula. I know it is a small town, but I am interested in what the neighboorhoods are like and the people. Are there mostly local people living there or are there many tourists that vacation there? Any other thoughts about what is good and bad about the city would be helpful.

i dont live there, but recently drove around the area as of 6/2010 to see how it would be like to live around there. Kam Hwy (basically the only road in and out) is a single lane road with 35 mph limit, although ppl were going around 45 mph (this was a Saturday around 12pm). Hauula is a pretty small town/rural type town, i didnt see any type of chain stores. I think the Hauula city center (if it was that) has a mini strip mall with a grocery store, a Papa Ole restaurant, the Hauula Clinic, and a Giovanni shrimp truck (packed with ppl). All the homes look old, like the single wall 1960's style home. Some do look fancy and updated, most don't though. Most folks look local. Let's put it this way, the HRSA scores the Hauula area with 22...a poverty score akin to the "worse" Indian reservation sites on the mainland (you can imagine how bad that could be, also inner city south central LA has a similar score). I went to a large beach park (kokololio?) and alot of folks there having get toegethers (like 5 groups of 20 ppl each) with canopies and stuff. They seemed like local family folk. It seems very quiet up there. I scoped it out because believe it or not, I may get a job around there. I would live in Kaneohe area and commute up there (took about 25mins).
But I agree, if was retired I would consider that area. Get a water front cottage, and kayak fish all day long. The polnesian resort is 5 mins away and golf further up about 15 mins.
