I will be moving to Honolulu soon and I am hoping to work as a substitute teacher. Is there a need for subs? Can I expect to be hired in reasonable time (I just graduated from college and don't have any teaching experience yet)? Can I expect to work mostly full time? Also, I am concerned about getting phone calls saying, "be here in 45 mins" when I hear that rush hour traffic is horrible. How do people over come that problem?
I'm a teacher in Southern CA and, although I don't know with 100% certainty about Hawai'i....I know that in almost every district the demand for subs is high.
Basically if you're willing to do anything from Kinder up to high school, you'll be working every day if that's what you want. If you're only willing to do, say 3rd and 4th grade and only in certain areas of Oahu, then you may only get 1 or 2 gigs a week....
If you're flexible, I know you'll be working full time....
