There have been different discussions about how to bring gambling to Hawaii. One of the recent ideas was a casino for only visitors- locals couldn't go (there is prob a lot more to that discussion, but i wasn't really following). They are very strict about gambling here. I was trying to hold a charitable poker tournament and the county would not allow it as you cannot spend money towards gambling publicly. Gambling is very popular amongst friends. On any given night you can meet up with neighbors here and join in a game of texas hold em or pepito- its just under the table and not public. Gambling is also popular on chicken fights but that's a whole other can of worms. Sorry if that was rambled, it's been a longgg day at work!

Home with Ohana. That is it. Poker is very around but local style. The **** fights and dog fights are around also.. Not so much into that. Talking about legalizig again HOpe they do for the cruise ships at least. Homelands Uhmmm yes they shoould have the same right as native americians... but uhmmm
There is absolutely no gambling allowed in the state of Hawaii.
There is an abundance of underground crap tables, cards, male bird fighting etc... (if you know where to go). I have been around for a long time and never have I seen or heard of people dog fighting in Hawaii. Birds yes; dogs no.
They just shot down legislation that would have made rooster fighting legal (excuse me; I have to roll on the floor and laugh out loud), all right I'm back.
How in the world did people think that bird fighting could be legalized when we can't even play cards!
The legislation that died on the floor a couple days ago (no pun intended) was linked to carrying on the Filipino custom of (I will be censored if I say the word so I say) male chicken fighting.
One of my neighbors likes to play poker but the only games he can consistently find are online ones. He said he used to go to someone's house to play poker when he lived on Oahu and he almost got caught up in a police raid on the house so even private poker parties aren't allowed.
I've never heard of dog fighting, but they do use the dogs for pig hunting a lot. Rooster fighting is probably more common than we know, it is usually done pretty secretively though. Even when those get raided, there usually isn't more than one or two people who actually get arrested.
Mm...that's tough! No organized poker anywhere. Not even poker tourneys?
It is also illegal here in Japan, but they organize public events by giving away a large prize, rather than winning cash itself. (For example, the winner of a decent tourney will fly to another country and be entered into a much larger tourney).
I seen tourn done on bases, prizes won aren't huge.
all u gotta do is drive around waipahu and look for crowded garages tables wit 10gs in cash
Is it easy to get on base in Oahu?
When I lived in Seoul...(as a non-military person), it was nearly impossible. I did have some friends who would sign me in...and I remember the poker tournament structures being insane - i.e. "who is pocketing almost all of the money" kind of thing...
On any given night you can meet up with neighbors here and join in a game of texas hold em or pepito- its just under the table and not public.
Pepito? Is that a local type of game? Only in Hawaii?
I've yet to hear of that one.

By the way, unfortunate there is NO gambling allowed whatsoever. Sounds like Japan. I can sorta understand the banning of casinos, but to just ban all forms under all circumstances, seems a bit extreme.
