I wrote a couple of threads about 5 months ago about my first time visiting Hawaii. I was very excited and really wanted to live there, even though I never visited the island before. So, the main goal of my first trip was to scout and see all the different towns, prices, employment, culture, and etc.

I arrived at the Hotel around 5-6pm. and the sun was setting. The first thing that I wanted to do was get to the beach and jump in the water. I took off my glasses and left them in the hotel and walked to Waikiki. As soon as I reached the beach, I took off my shirt and jump in the water. Big Mistake. I jump in and waded forward only to have my knees hit the coral rocks. I had scratches on my knees a couple of days.

There are a lot of homeless people around the Waikiki area. I was carrying my boogieboard while going to Waikiki and a guy behind me picked up a sandwich in the garbage can and started eating it. Their tents are all over the Kapiolani Park and they can be seen sleeping in the pavilion or on the outer rim of the beaches. Although they are harmless because none of them are allowed to approach you and beg for money. It still a sight for sore eyes, and I hope the government does something about them.

We ate at the International Market place first. We went to Yummies and had the mix BBQ plate for about $9 buck. It was delicious and the Kalbi is better than Ono or L&L. For Dinner, was went to Kozo Sushi and it was also delicious.

Then later that night, we went to Safeway to shop for some things for the rest of the week. We bought a carton of Orange Juice, which was on sale for 2 for $5 at safeway and some fruit. The prices at the safeway was more expensive than in California, but it wasn't outrageous as some people make it out to be.

then we went to sleep, so the first day was pretty good, except for skinning my knees and driving for 30 minutes to find out hotel.

Thanks for spending the time writing all this down. I enjoy reading this kind of insight from the eyes of a newcomer, and I don't think I am alone. Keep it up.

One thing though, the expression "sight for sore eyes" means exactly opposite of what you intended it to mean.
