Does anyone know of a good company to get internet through in Gainesville? I don't want to have to pay for a package with Cox as I only need the internet. I don't need to have cable or a phone line. ATT does not service my area.

Cox doesn't require anyone to bundle service. I currently use Cox for internet only, no phone or cable TV.

I know they don't require bundling but the cost for the web alone is almost as much as getting a bundle.

My home internet use is mostly just regular internet browsing, email and some netflix. Not real heavy use. My connection was about 3 Mbs, but I recently switched to CenturyLink.

Avoid the NE section...high crime. NW is the best, but more expensive, DO NOT EVER live in these apartments: Sun Bay or any of the Sun Island properties, Arbor Park or pretty much anything on SW 16th between 13th and S. Main. Be sure to search apartmentratings.com for any apartment complex in Gainesville and read the reviews. Some look nice on the outside, but are trashy inside and not well kept up. I had to leave an apartment due to mold that was making me very ill.

In the NW section, there is an EPA cleanup site that goes down one side of I believe it's 6th Street. Cute little houses, pretty cheap, but high cancer and miscarriage rate in that neighborhood.

Stay far away from the Linden Oaks neighborhood. Very high crime, drugs, bad place. There are some sketchy places on 4th avenue close to downtown too. They call that the "student ghetto," because it is brand new student housing on one side and literally ghetto on the other.

Just do your homework. Ask a real estate agent where some safe parts of town are in your price range.
