I will be moving to Ocala, Florida 34481. I would like to know who the cable TV/Internet company (or more) available. Also, who is the Electric Company.

What community events should we look for? I hear the square is the happening place for local events. What else should we know about? I welcome your input! Thank you. - Pam

SECO is the electric company. The only internet available, where we are, is Hugh's Net and there is not cable; we use DirecTV.

pamsothere,

To determine who provides internet and/or power you need to be a little more specific where you will be moving to. Is the home in a specific community ?? What are the closest roads ?? Sometimes there may different providers based on which street you live on or near. There is no one answer fits all. Ocala has Century Link, Bright House, Cox Cable, just to name a few. Electric can be SECO, Ocala Utilities, Progress Energy. Granted you don't have a choice about which electric company but you might be able to choose a cable company. I live in zip code 34471 and can choose Cox Cable or Century Link for cable/internet but Ocala Utilities is the only option for power.

I believe that the area you are asking about is called Rolling Hills. That area might be in the At&t coverage area for landline service. I used to live within about 3 miles from that area.

Community Events

There are several local farmer's markets, the one on the Square is the largest.

Light Up Ocala happens around the holidays. It encompasses the Square and a couple of streets off of that. Lots of food, lights, music and people. It's when the holiday lights get turned on.

Taste of Ocala used to be an outdoor event, but last year it was moved indoors and the price was raised significantly. It's now a formal event. It benefits scholarships at College of Central Florida.

The Ocala Christmas parade is a big deal. Folks rope off areas along the sidewalk and set out their lawn chairs a week in advance. This long time city girl is always amazed that the chairs are still there at the end of the week.

Have you looked into Verizon wireless? We got an excellent signal outside the city. We too have DirecTV and a portable Satellite dish we take with us when snow-birding in the RV.
