I lived in "The Shores" AKA "Silver Springs Shores" for almost 3 years and really liked it. That being said there are some areas of "The Shores" that are not so hot so I would really look around. I also would not suggest Marion Oaks (lots of crime, gangs and overall issues). I would look on the out skirts of Ocala. Good Luck

I'm also looking to relocate to Ocala from Queens, NY and would prefer a diverse neighborhood and one that is family oriented. My kids are 5 months old, 4 years old, 15 and 16 years old. I am interested in knowing which schools are the best and which areas are best to live. Thank you!

Amazing how many young families are moving to Ocala! I am considering the move from northern NY. Going to be staying in "the villages" for a bit, to save up some cash, but seriously considering Ocala as the place to land. Would love to know which are the better schools, as well as daycare too. I saw one that runs 24/7 and that would be ideal, as I am an RN and going to be working all kinds of crazy hours.

Found many posts helpful on our recent visit to Ocala. What a great city to raise a family! Cannot wait to go back and hopefully find our next home. Meet some wonderful helpful folks. Cannot wait to move from Maryland. Like the SW section but need to learn more about The Shores. Drove many streets but not sure what exactly is considered the "north section" of the shores.

Strangely enough, the North section is in the South and the South section is in the North. I have been wondering how that ever happened. Makes absolutely no sense.

HI - I am also considering Ocala and have 2 young children (6 and 8). I am targeting 2 years out but since we currently live in Tampa and my folks live in the Villages I am up there quite a bit and can 'check out' areas in Ocala. I appreciate the feedback on what areas to avoid - very useful. Can someone indicate what schools are good quality for kids of Elementary and middle school age and if possible what are names of corresponding neighborhoods or cross streets? This will make visting and checking out neighborhoods so much easier. I am hoping to find a newer home (less than 10 yrs old) with a pool. We have home in Tampa area that is 10 yr old and has pool 3000 sq ft. Looking for similar. Also - is possible to buy some land and still be in good school zone in Ocala?

We live in Citrus County and are very happy with the schools. There are a lot of options for middle and high school students.
As for neighborhoods there are a lot to look into. Citrus springs might be worth checking out, its medium income, nice playground, community center with activities for children, has a new
elementary school and middle school right across the street.
We live in Pine Ridge, just south of Citrus Springs, the lots are bigger and allow horses. This neighborhood has more older people.

We are about 20 miles south of Ocala.
