A valuable observation, chet-kinkaid. (I, for one, didn't realize this) More information on this former Sears connection would be really helpful for outsiders like me. (for example: exactly where was it in the metro, how big was it in its prime, what happened to it and when?) Thanks!

i'd say "why not Cincinnati?" but I'm pretty sure the Governor isn't actually aware of our existence.

^Just because all of his Ohio road maps heading south terminate at Grove City, why would you ever think that?

My father worked for a hauler of the sears catalog distribution center till they closed many moons ago. With him being in transportation his whole career he claims that many major firms love columbus for wharehousing options etc due to lage main rail spurs, and the fact it is one of the largest trucking hubs in the US. The westside of columbus was built by trucking, and rail. GM, Westinghouse, Sears, Yellow, Roadway, Leaseway, CCX, Big Lots, KalKan, Star Leasing, and many more. While most are long gone now, they have long standing ties to these types of business. I don't have an opinion one way or another on Sears in general, but netting any plus jobs for any amount of time can't hurt. Oh and as far as the catalog center. In it's day it was the largest of it's kind. I can't remember how many miles long it was, but I walked it many times as a kid with my father. It was something to be proud of that's for sure.

Thank you for this information, bbb3601--most certainly the major East/West I-70 corridor contributes immensely to Columbus's importance as a distribution center/freight hub for truck and rail. It would be interesting to tour/photograph (if permitted) one of the larger truck terminals in the western part of the city. (the truck traffic along I-70 is formidable indeed!) Likewise with rail; from a railroader's POV I'd like to learn more about operations in and around the Columbus metro-area.

Come on, when has Cincinnati ever been regarded by the rest of the state anyway? Didn't you guys know that the vast majority of Ohio considers Cincinnati to be the capitol of Northern Kentucky?

Sears AND K-Mart!?!?! Well THAT seals it!!!

Just another example of the development of O-H-I-O, the premier corporate welfare state.
Well the idiot Kasich said don't bet on Sears coming... I am hoping he is sticking to his word and doesn't throw $500 million at them and surprise us.

At any rate, I was being facetious -though since you ask, it's something that has gone around for a number of years. You've never heard that??
