It may just come down to name recognition. That remains one of Columbus' biggest weaknesses, imo.

I think most people know the name Columbus, Ohio...just nothing about it. I think this goes for all 3 Cs; Cleveland has a terrible national reputation and Cinci is another ''don't know much about it'' place (other than the race ''riots''-burning garbage cans and throwing some rocks). The importance of a national convention will do much to change any of these cities images.

Cleveland was just named as the host city for the 2016 Republican National Convention!

Nice! Good news for Cleveland and Ohio.

Hopefully this forces the Dems to make it an all-Ohio event and choose Columbus.

Who cares if it's RNC or DNC...lots of money will be spent in the local economy with a world-wide media focus on Cleveland. Cleveland is very photogenic, especially at night with Tower City lit-up. Let's hopes it's an interesting convention, politically, because the city the RNC opted for is an interesting place.

Fantastic news for Cleveland! The added money spent on improving infrastructure ahead of it will benefit the city for years to come, and of course the cash poured in to the economy will be a big immediate boost.
