TELL IT LIKE IT IS

1) Current or former Ohio location:
NE Ohio - Cleveland Heights.

2) Why do you want to leave or have left?:
Leaving in two weeks. Accepted a position in Northern New Jersey within my company that pays more, provides more opportunity for advancement, and I'll have NYC at my fingertips. I'll be living in the Hamilton Park neighborhood of Jersey City.

4) 2nd and 3rd Place Choices: Philadelphia and Chicago

5) What’s currently holding you back from moving if you haven't already left?:
Up until I accepted the position I'll be taking on, my immediate family lives in Cleveland and the the rents are amazingly low.

6) Anything else you want to say?
Cleveland is the city of lost opportunity. As a lifelong resident of this city, I can say with great conviction that most of the residents are perfectly content being mediocre. From the sports teams to the lack of urgency of Cleveland's leadership to the antiquated and recycled ideas that will supposedly "revive Cleveland," we fall way behind the curve as cities like Pittsburgh and Columbus, and to a lesser extent Buffalo (which truly is making a comeback), grab our lost opportunities. Cleveland's greatest attribute - being halfway between Chicago and NYC, being a stone's throw from Toronto, and having unrestricted access to the Lake Erie - should alone be enough to make Cleveland more alluring than it is. Add to the mix that we have dirt cheap real estate, tonnes of dead space just itching for development, top-notch health care, and a world-class international airport and it becomes apparent just how lousy of a job the powers that be in Cleveland have done in attracting business to the North Coast. We'll happily vote to give the stadium owners tax abatements and public funding, but god forbid we offer tax incentives to businesses that set up shop in Cleveland and employ our residents. We have Amtrak running right through the heart of the city, but good luck finding the station. 70% of the light rail (Rapid) stops are in the middle of nowhere and highly unsafe. We spent millions on the Euclid Corridor project and yet nobody thought to implement a way to force all riders to pay before entering the bus. And now the Medical Mart - the golden ticket that will ultimately revitalize the downtown - by attracting medical professionals, and only medical professionals, to its hallowed halls. Wake me when this nightmare is over.

In the end, I'll look back upon Cleveland as a place that was good to me and will always be my home. I just wish I could go elsewhere and not have a bitter taste in my mouth as so many cities with so much less to offer than Cleveland find ways to stay relevant and make do while Cleveland continues to crumble.

/end rant

Because we drive vehicles on public roads, the government has the right to regulate how we use them, and that includes mandating safety belt usage.

So what your saying is that if they say that your not allowed to have a cell phone, Ipod, Mp3 player and absolutly no smoking in your own vehicle at all, that's OK too?

Well, you're already seeing many jurisdictions outlaw the use of cell phones while driving, at least without the use of Bluetooth. There's even been some chatter about outlawing smoking should you have others, namely children, in the vehicle.

I'm not saying that any of it is necessarily proper and just. I'm just stating the legal rationale. Remember - driving is not a right. If it's that important to you, then you need to start voting against elected officials who support these laws you detest. Good luck with that, because you won't find many alternatives.

No your right "driving is a privaledge" not a right.

But here in Ohio a truck driver who is driving a Ohio based company truck inside the Ohio lines is not allowed to smoke in that truck. We're not allowed to have passenger for the most part and that truck is our office and soul work place all day long. Many parts here in Ohio in the northern areas near Cleveland, some cities band the use of cellphones while driving. Now grant it, I believe in both of these laws in one way or another. I don't smoke, so I wouldn't want another driver using the truck on another shift smoking and stinking it up. But there is where being an adult and showing some respect for others come in.

If the country keeps seeing the need to micro-managing everything we do in our lives, on and off the high-ways. It's going to get to the point where they will start coming into the homes and telling how to live our lives there as well. As adults we should have the ability to determain the diference between right and wrong, not the government doing it for us.

Personally, I like to wear my seatbelt (as well as everyone who gets into my vehicles will as well, my rules), I don't use the cell phone or text while driving (that's just plain stupid to do anyway), I keep the music (if it's ever on) down low (so I may pay close attention to the road and hear my vehicle if something goes wrong). And I like to check out mine and my wifes vehicles to make sure that they are up to par for the road and safe useage every other week. Now there is where being a resposible adult falls into play, I'm doing all this, not the government telling me I need to.

Not ranting, just saying and I like your input
